Cassper Nyovest promoted his new album – A.M.N (Any Minute Now) – and opened up about his battle against COVID-19 on American radio personality Ibrahim “Ebro” Darden’s Ebro Show on Monday 5 October.
The video of his virtual guest appearance was shared on social media by Apple Music, as well as by both Nyovest and Darden.
While chatting about the success of A.M.N, Cassper also detailed how he contracted the virus.
CASSPER VS COVID-19
According to the Friday Night hitmaker, he was busy training for his upcoming boxing match against fellow rapper AKA during Lockdown Level 5.
Nyovest and AKA was due to face off in the boxing ring on 28 September. The two rappers will however have to settle their beef on another time due to the pandemic.
“The training was so hectic and just at the peak of my fitness, I contracted COVID-19 in a meeting. The weirdest thing is everybody was social distancing and everything that we were told to do. And if I wasn’t called by the person who tested positive, I wouldn’t have known,” Nyovest said
Nyovest followed protocol by isolating himself and revealed that things “got challenging” on the seventh day of his 14-day isolation period.
“I had a hectic fever and my body was all over the place: I was hot and cold. I didn’t have all the symptoms and it’s worse than just the flu.
“Probably seven days later, I was back running in the streets.
“I could feel that my chest wasn’t okay.
He also mentioned that he continues to pay his staff in spite of the effects of the pandemic on the economy.
“As an artist, it took away my livelihood.
“It took away jobs from the people that are around me and I made a decision to still pay my employees, even though no one was working.”
A.M.N SUCCESS
A.M.N — which is a tribute to his newborn son, Khotso, with his partner Thobeka Majozi — is currently the best-selling album in South Africa.
Nyovest also recently took to Instagram to announce the success of two songs from his new album — Amademoni and Good for That — which were certified gold- and platinum-selling singles respectively.
The South African rapper also took the opportunity to thank his fans for the support.
“#AnyMinuteNow is currently the best-selling album in the country across all genres, so thank you so much to all the fans!!! I appreciate it a lot!!! Keep streaming!!!,” he said.
NYOVEST BACK ON THE ROAD
He also announced on Twitter that he is “back on the road” referring to his album tour starting in Bloemfontein on Friday 9 October where he will continue to promote his work.
